1025. Narodziny Królestwa
Best Temporary Exhibition in the nationwide poll of Archeologia Żywa magazine
The exhibition was created to mark the 1000th anniversary of the coronation of Poland's first kings — Bolesław the Brave and Mieszko II (November 2024 – June 2025). The ambition of the project was to go beyond the perspective of the elites and show early medieval Poland in all its complexity: its customs, diet, the languages spoken, and the everyday life of people at the crossroads of Europe's great cultures.
More than 300 priceless artifacts were assembled, mainly from Ostrów Lednicki and Giecz. Among them were the silver “Royal” chalice from Trzemeszno, the Płock diadem with rubies and sapphires, a gold ring with a topaz from Gniezno Cathedral, the famous denarius of Bolesław the Brave, and the 11th-century Codex Pretiosus. The traditional exhibits were set within a modern immersive structure — with interactive multimedia stations and innovative tactile and scent elements.
The exhibition won first place in the Best Temporary Exhibition category in the nationwide poll of Archeologia Żywa magazine.
Curators: Dr. Tomasz Borowski and Dr. Andrzej Kowalczyk.
Exhibition design and production: New Amsterdam. Produced in cooperation with the Museum of the First Piasts at Lednica and the Museum of the Gniezno Archdiocese.
