An exhibition devoted to one of the most groundbreaking moments in Polish history — the Kościuszko Uprising, which for the first time united peasants, townspeople, the nobility, and the elites in a common struggle for independence. The exhibition does not stop at 1794, however. It shows the long endurance of this tradition — its traces in the January Uprising, in the Second Polish Republic, and in the “Solidarity” movement. It offers a new perspective on the idea of national uprisings and helps us understand what they meant to successive generations of Poles.

The exhibition space conveyed the atmosphere of the late 18th century through weapons, battle models, documents, and drawings by Jan Piotr Norblin and Aleksander Orłowski. A unique exhibit was the school notebook of the young Tadeusz Kościuszko — one of the most personal traces left by the future Commander-in-Chief.

The audio recordings were produced by the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute. Curators: Michał Bąk and Richard Butterwick-Pawlikowski, in collaboration with the director of the Museum of Polish History, Prof. Marcin Napiórkowski.
