Fort 44a “Pękowice”
2025

Can a historic military building house a modern corporate showroom and a museum in one? Our project for Cognor S.A. proves that it can. The results of this multi-year revitalization are covered in detail by PropertyNews.pl. On this occasion, we would like to thank Katarzyna Kuchejda for the excellent collaboration and congratulate her on the wonderful interior design of the entire complex!

From military fortress to a unique mixed-use venue

Fort 44A “Pękowice” is a historic structure built at the end of the 19th century as part of the defensive system of the Kraków Fortress. After nearly two decades of complex conservation work, the former military walls have been transformed into a vibrant space. The project, which originally envisioned an economical office, evolved into a spectacular undertaking in which history meets modern business.

Two stories within one set of walls

As part of this unique undertaking, the New Amsterdam team was responsible for the comprehensive design and build of the exhibition section. We developed the scenography, the narrative path, and the complete multimedia content for two key zones of the building:
– Kraków Fortress Museum: A space that serves as a witness to history, presenting the unique military and architectural heritage of former Galicia and Kraków's historic defensive system.
– Cognor S.A. Museum and Showroom: The investor's representative zone, where the company's history intertwines with a modern presentation of its achievements.

A synergy of history, design, and business

The revitalization of Fort 44A is a perfect example of how to effectively combine educational, commercial, and functional uses. Alongside the exhibitions we designed, the historic fabric of the fort now houses spaces by Studio Kuchejda, refined down to the smallest detail: board meeting rooms, an event area with a wine bar and bar, and hotel rooms on the upper floor.

We have shown that, thanks to thoughtful scenography and respect for the historic fabric, a 130-year-old monument can become not only rescued heritage but also a modern showcase for a thriving company.
