Instead of a traditional exhibition – a space that combines a modern museum with an interactive play area. For the OKO Interactive Fairy Tale and Animation Center in Bielsko-Biała, we designed and produced a multimedia permanent exhibition. It is a fascinating journey behind the scenes of the legendary Studio Filmów Rysunkowych (Animated Film Studio), where cult characters such as Reksio, Bolek and Lolek, and Pampalini were born.
Become the director of your own story
At the heart of the OKO Center is an exhibition spread over two floors that redefines the concept of edutainment. We abandoned the model of passive sightseeing in favor of full engagement. Visitors step into the very middle of the film production process and can take on the roles of creators and directors themselves. It is a place where traditional drawing techniques blend seamlessly with state-of-the-art digital technology.
7 steps to creating an animation
We planned the entire exhibition as a coherent, engaging path divided into 7 thematic zones. Step by step, they reveal the secrets of how animated films are made:
– History of the Studio: A journey from the post-war beginnings and animations made on X-ray film all the way to the computer era.
– Script and characters: Discovering the magic of storyboards and how pencil sketches evolve into fully fledged characters.
– Backgrounds in animation: Learning to build the mood and space of a story with color and light.
– Bringing the image to life: Exploring the art of editing and setting individual frames into fluid motion.
– Sound: A zone with interactive stations where visitors can create sound effects themselves (so-called foley, e.g. the sound of wind) and dub their favorite characters.
– 360° projection: A spectacular mapping that surrounds the viewer with large-format image and sound.
– Pop culture and awards: A space celebrating the international successes of the Bielsko-Biała studio, crowned with the chance to watch the cartoon the visitor co-created while walking through the exhibition.
A space that brings generations together
The OKO Center is an intergenerational project. With the youngest visitors in mind, we prepared numerous stations where they can color characters and bring them to life through unrestrained play.
Our project in Bielsko-Biała is perfect proof that advanced technology should remain merely an invisible tool. What matters most is an engaging story, stimulating the senses and evoking genuine, positive emotions.
