Immersion in a historic space

Wawel Hill is now home to one of the most advanced multimedia exhibitions in Poland. The Międzymurze project is an immersive space located in a unique archaeological reserve, where history is told through light, sound, and modern technology.

New Amsterdam was responsible for building the exhibition: delivering the multimedia systems and integrating the technology within the demanding, historic context of Wawel.

Immersion in a historic space

The exhibition was built as a fully automated visitor route. Visitors are guided through successive stages of a narrative in which the archaeological space and the multimedia layer form a coherent experience.

The project required precise adaptation of the technical solutions to the historic fabric of the site, as well as close cooperation with the investor and the heritage conservation authorities.

The visitor experience

Międzymurze is a theater of light and sound set in an authentic archaeological space. The visual and audio narrative leads visitors deep into Wawel's defensive walls, heightening the sense of immersion in the history of the place.

The project was designed with smooth visitor flow, safety, and the durability of the technology in demanding conservation conditions in mind.

Projection system and immersive sound

The centerpiece of the project is an extensive projection system comprising two mappings, created using a total of 23 projectors. The image is synchronized with an immersive sound system, creating a multidimensional audiovisual environment.

The scope of the build work included:
– installation and configuration of the projection systems,
– implementation and calibration of the immersive sound system,
– integration of control systems and synchronization of image, sound, and lighting,
– installation of AV infrastructure in a historic space,
– commissioning and final testing of the systems.

The solutions used allow the multimedia show to run in a fully synchronized, stable, and repeatable way in the demanding conditions of a historic site.

All synchronization is handled by the HILIGHT control system.
