Virtual Reality (VR) is one of the most advanced multimedia solutions, as it requires special sound and image technology. Currently, VR is becoming more available and commonly used. Soon it will be another major technological breakthrough after smartphones. Luckily, we know exactly how to use it.
Virtual Reality employs computer technology to create the effect of an interactive, three-dimensional world, in which digitally created objects look as if they were actually present. With VR one can simulate reality, but also create entirely new, parallel worlds. Although the technology can engage all senses, usually it focuses on the visual and sound effects, displayed as a 3D image on a computer screen or special surrounding screens, which increase the effect of immersion in the virtual environment. Users can interact with it through stereoscopic glasses and gloves and get the illusion of movement in a virtual setting.
Virtual Reality is most often used in computer games, although recently it is becoming more and more popular also in entertainment and tourism industries, advertising, education, health care and the military. With VR anyone can go on a virtual tour and almost physically experience a remote site or explore museum collections without leaving home.
